The short version

  • You can play without telling us who you are.
  • We save your scores so your streak and stats work.
  • If you sign in, we keep your name and email to save your streak. We never sell them. We'd only ever pass them to another company if you ask us to, by ticking a box that names that company.
  • We only send you reminders (by email or phone notification) if you turn them on: a morning score report when each day's round is live (by phone notification, also an 8pm nudge if your streak's at risk), a Sunday round-up, and a nudge if you've been away. You can stop them at any time.
  • If you're 13 or over and tick the separate box, we'll email you offers and giveaways from PowerPin and brands we trust, plus our news. Betting and drinks offers only go to people who also tick "18+ only" and give their date of birth. We send these ourselves: partners never get your details.
  • If you're signed in and tick "Tell me when PowerPin Pro launches", we'll email you once when Pro launches. That's separate from offers, and you can untick it at any time.
  • One PowerPin account works in every game. Your scores, team, leagues and reminders are kept separately for each game; your sign-in, nickname and offers choices are shared.
  • You can leave one game (Stats > Leave that game), or delete your whole account and everything in it, in every game (Stats > Delete my PowerPin account), whenever you like.
  • Questions? Email hello@playpowerpin.com.

Who we are

PowerPin (playpowerpin.com) makes daily map games: PowerPin Rugby, Football, Cricket, Golf and Grand Prix. It is run by PowerPin Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC904757), which is responsible for your information (the "data controller"). What we keep, and why

WhatWhy
An invisible account: a random ID made when you first lock in an answer. It has no name or email. So your scores, streak and stats are saved.
Your rounds: the puzzle, the date, your score, how far each pin was from the answer, and how many seconds each answer took.Your stats and streak, and "how you did against everyone" (we only ever show totals, never anyone's own scores). The times show us which clues are too hard, and help us keep leagues and prizes fair.
Your nickname and leagues (only if you use leagues): the nickname you choose and the leagues you start or join.To show league tables. Your nickname and scores are shown only to the people in your leagues, unless you choose to be on the daily top 10 (below).
Medals: which medals you've won in each game and when.To show your medal cabinet. Only you see it. Deleted with your account, or when you leave that game.
Duels (only if you start or play one): which round of clues the duel is on, who started it, and each player's points for its five clues. To show who won. Your nickname and duel score are shown only to the people who play the same duel link. Duels are deleted with your account, when you leave that game, or after 13 months unplayed.
How you found us and whether you share: where your first visit came from (for example a shared result, X, the PowerPin app or a search engine, or "direct"), and each time you tap Share (not what you shared or who with). To see which ways of spreading PowerPin work.
The daily top 10 (only if you choose "Put me on the board"): that you chose it, and when.To show your nickname and that day's score on each game's daily top 10, which anyone who finishes that day's round can see. It's off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off any time in Stats (or delete your account). Rounds that look like cheating are left off.
Who you support, if you tell us: a country and a club, for each game.Rivalry boards comparing fans of different teams (only ever shown as averages), and your team's flag next to your nickname in your leagues' tables. Signed-in players are asked for their country so their scores count for it.
Problem reports, if you send one: the question, what you think is wrong and anything you write. If you report a nickname in a league or duel: which name, and where you saw it.To fix mistakes in our questions, and to remove names that break our rules.
Your name and email, only if you sign in with Google or your email address. Google also sends a link to your profile picture, which we never use or show.To save your streak to an account you can use on any device, and to send the emails you asked for.
Your reminder settings: email on or off, and, if you turn on phone notifications, the address your browser gives us for sending them (it doesn't identify you or your phone number). To send the reminders you asked for, and nothing else. Reminder emails can mention your scores, your league and how your team's fans did that week.
Which version of our Terms you agreed to, and when, if you sign in.So we can show which terms applied to you.
Your email reminder choice, for each game: each yes or no, the exact words you saw, where, and when. The law asks us to keep proof that you agreed to reminder emails.
Your offers choices: each yes or no to offers emails, and to betting and drinks offers, the exact words you saw, where, and when. The law asks us to keep proof that you agreed to marketing emails.
Your date of birth, only if you tick "Include betting and drinks offers (18+ only)".To check you're 18 or over, because betting and drinks brands may only advertise to adults, and to choose offers that suit your age group. Partners only ever see totals, such as how many fans aged 25 to 34 are on the list, never your date of birth.
Emails and reminders we've sent: which one, when, whether you tapped it, and whether it bounced or was marked as spam. We don't track whether you open emails. To check reminders help rather than annoy, to send no more than one a day, and to never send the same one twice.
Our do-not-email list: an email address whose email bounced or was marked as spam.So we stop emailing it straight away. Ticking the reminders box again takes it off the list.
Your email for the kick-off email, only if you left it on a "coming soon" page before a game opened: your email, your team if you pick one, where you came from (for example Instagram), whether you ticked the news box, the exact words you saw, and when. Also a scrambled code made from your connection's address, which can't be turned back into it and is deleted after 2 days.To email you once when the game goes live, and PowerPin news now and then only if you ticked the box (never partner offers). The scrambled code stops floods of fake sign-ups.
Technical logs kept by the companies that run our website and database, such as your IP address and browser type.To keep the site working and secure, and to stop abuse.

Your phone or computer also keeps your progress in today's puzzle, your streak and your settings, so the game works quickly and you can pick up where you left off. If you sign in, it keeps you signed in. These stay on your device. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

The PowerPin app for Android. The app is a window onto playpowerpin.com, shown by Google Chrome on your phone, so it keeps exactly what the website keeps and nothing more. If you turn on notifications in the app, Android asks you first, and they're delivered by Google's notification service. When you install it, Google Play tells us totals such as how many people installed the app, ratings and crash counts, never who you are; Google's own privacy policy covers what Google Play collects.

To see how many people visit and which pages they use, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts visits without cookies and without identifying you or following you across other websites.

Our own game pages also count, for each game and day, how many people opened the game, saw the first clue, placed a first pin, tapped a past puzzle, or saw or tapped a sponsor's logo, and, for each first pin, the country the connection comes from (Cloudflare reads it from the internet address, which we never see or keep; we keep only the total for each country). These are totals only: nothing is stored about you or your device beyond a note on your device that it has already been counted today, so it isn't counted twice.

To show "Where everyone put their pin" at full time, we also count where pins land on each day's clues, rounded to a square about 11 km across. Only the number of pins in each square is kept, with nothing about who put them there, and you only see a day's map once you've played that day.

The legal reasons (for those who like to know): providing the game you asked for (your account, rounds, team, leagues, nickname and sign-in); your choice to show on the daily top 10; our legitimate interest in fixing questions, keeping the site secure and improving it (reports and logs); and your consent for the kick-off email, reminder emails and news and offers emails, which you can take back at any time.

One account, every game

PowerPin has five games (Rugby, Football, Cricket, Golf and Grand Prix) and one account for all of them, under these same terms and this policy. What's kept for each game separately: your rounds, scores, streak and stats, the team you support, your leagues, your reminder settings and your yes or no to that game's reminder emails (stopping one game's reminders doesn't stop another's). What's shared across games: your sign-in (name and email), your nickname, your date of birth and your news and offers choice (one choice for all of PowerPin). Reminder emails are never more than one a day across all your games. If you leave a game, we delete that game's rounds, team, reminders and league places, keep a record that its reminder emails were stopped, and leave everything else as it is.

Who else handles it

We use a few trusted companies to run PowerPin. They only use your information to provide their service to us, under contracts that protect it:

We never sell your information. We'd only ever pass your name or email to another company, such as a partner running a competition or an offer, if you ask us to by ticking a separate box that names that company. Nobody who signed up before that box existed is included, and you can change your mind at any time.

Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your information leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, they protect it with the safeguards UK and EU law requires.

How long we keep it

Emails

We only send you an email when you ask for a sign-in code, if you asked for the kick-off email before a game opened (one email, plus PowerPin news only if you ticked that box), once when you first sign in (a welcome confirming your streak is saved), if you turned on reminder emails, or if you ticked the separate box for news and offers. Reminder emails are never more than one a day, and if you stop playing they stop too, after a last email a month later, apart from a nudge when a big tournament is about to start (at most twice a year). Every reminder or news email has a link to stop them, and you can change your choices in the game (Stats > Remind me and Your data).

News and offers

The offers box is for anyone aged 13 or over. If you tick it, we may email you PowerPin news, competitions, giveaways and offers, including offers from partners we choose. Some partners (for example, drinks or betting brands that sponsor sport) may only advertise to adults, so their offers only go to people who also tick "Include betting and drinks offers (18+ only)", which asks for your date of birth. Saying no to anything here never affects the game: everything in PowerPin works the same either way. We send every email ourselves, and we never give or sell your name or email address to a partner. We use the team you support to choose which news and offers to send you: for example, Ireland and England fans before a big Ireland v England match. If a competition ever needs to pass your details to a partner, we'll ask you separately, naming the partner, first.

If you contact us about working with us

If you send us a sponsorship, offer or prize draw enquiry through the form on our partner pages, we keep what you typed (your name, email address, brand, website and the details of your idea) and when you sent it, and email it to our partnerships inbox so we can reply. To stop the form being flooded, we also keep a scrambled code made from your connection's address, which can't be turned back into it and is deleted after 2 days. We use your enquiry only to talk to you about working together, never for marketing, and delete it after 2 years. It's kept by Supabase and sent by Resend, the same suppliers as the rest of PowerPin.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we have about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object to how we use it. You can delete your account yourself at any time (Stats > Delete my PowerPin account), which removes it and everything in it from every PowerPin game straight away, or leave just one game (Stats > Leave that game), which deletes that game's information only. For anything else, email hello@playpowerpin.com and we'll reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113), or the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Anyone can play PowerPin. We keep as little as possible about every player, and nothing about you is ever shown to other players. If you're under 13, please ask a parent or carer before you sign in or tick the reminder box.

Players outside the UK

PowerPin follows UK and EU data protection law, wherever you play from.

Changes

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If it's a big change, we'll tell you in the game before it happens.
