Questions and answers

What is PowerPin?

PowerPin makes free daily sports quizzes on a world map: Rugby, Football, Cricket, Golf and Grand Prix. In each game, every day everyone gets the same five clues about famous matches, grounds, players and moments. For each one you drop a pin on the world map where you think it happened: the closer you are, the more you score. Then you see the true story behind it. Rugby came first, and since Saturday 24 October 2026 all five games are live.

Is it free?

Yes. The daily round, your streak, leagues, duels, medals and sharing are free. One day we may add optional extras for keen players, but playing every day and playing with your mates will always be free.

When does the new round come out?

Every midnight, UK time. You get one go at each day's round, and so does everyone else, which is what makes scores worth comparing.

How is my score worked out?

Each clue is worth up to 200 points, so a perfect day is 1,000. Pin it within 15 km for the full 200; after that, the further away you are, the fewer points you get. After each answer you see how far away you were and where your pin landed.

Can I move my pin before I answer?

Yes, until you press Lock it in. Hold the pin and drag it: a magnifier above your finger shows exactly where its point is. The target button next to the zoom buttons zooms straight in on your pin. You can also play with a keyboard: the arrow keys move the pin, + and - zoom, and Home shows the whole world.

Can I play past puzzles?

Not yet. Every past day is coming with PowerPin Pro, our optional paid extra; the daily round, streaks, leagues, duels and medals always stay free. If you're signed in, the past-puzzle screen has a box to tick if you'd like one email when Pro launches. Until then you can read every past day's answers.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play straight away and your scores and streak are saved on your device. If you sign in with Google or your email address (we email you a code; about 30 seconds), your streak follows you to any phone or computer, and you can start or join leagues.

Does one account work for every PowerPin game?

Yes. Sign in once and the same account works in every game, under the same terms. Each game keeps its own scores, streak, team, leagues and reminders, so starting Cricket doesn't touch your Rugby streak, and stopping one game's reminders doesn't stop another's. Your nickname and your news and offers choice are the same everywhere.

How do I stop the emails?

Each game in your morning email has its own "Stop" link under its Play button, so you can stop one game's emails and keep the others. The link at the very bottom stops every PowerPin game's reminder emails at once. You can also untick "Email me my morning score report" in a game's stats screen, and tick it again whenever you like.

I've changed phone or cleared my browser. Where's my streak?

If you'd signed in, sign in again with the same Google account or email address and everything comes back. If you hadn't, your streak was only saved on the old device, so it can't be moved, sorry: sign in this time so it never happens again.

How do leagues work?

Sign in, tap Start a league (at the end of a round, or in Stats > Your leagues), name it, and share the invite link in your group chat. Everyone plays the same five clues, and the table shows who's top this week (it starts again every Monday, so everyone has a chance, and last week's winner gets a 🏆), with today's scores and the whole season one tap away. Your points count from the day you join: rounds you played before joining a league don't count in it. Up to 500 people can join one league, so a whole club fits. Only the people in a league can see it. Whoever runs a league can take it into another PowerPin game in one tap (League options > Also play…): same name, same mates, separate scores. Running a club? See PowerPin for clubs.

What's today's top 10?

Each game has a daily top 10 at full time: the day's best scores from signed-in players who chose to be on it, shown by nickname. You're never on it unless you tap Put me on the board, and you can come off it any time in Stats, under Your data. It starts fresh every midnight, so anyone can make it. Rounds that look like cheating (very high scores with every answer in a few seconds) are left off. See a name that shouldn't be there? Tap it and choose Report the name.

What's a duel?

A head-to-head with your mates. At the end of a round, tap Start a duel, play five clues, then send the link to a mate or your group chat. Anyone who opens it plays the same five clues in their own time, and you both see who got closer, clue by clue. The two bars show your totals out of 1,000, building up clue by clue; the higher total wins, and the winner's pin flattens the loser's (just the pins, and just for fun: it changes nothing). Under the result you'll see your running record against that mate from your last ten duels, and on a computer you can save the result as a picture to send. Duels need a nickname, which only the people who play that duel can see.

Are duel clues the same as today's round?

No. Duels never use today's round, so nobody can spoil it for you. Every duel uses a duel round: five clues kept just for duels, which never appear as a daily round or on the answers pages. Duels don't count towards your streak, your stats or your leagues, and there are no prizes for them.

How many duels can I play?

As many as you like, up to 20 new duels and 40 duel games a day. One duel link can be played by up to 100 people, so you can post it in a group chat and take everyone on: the result lets you see how you did against each of them. If several people challenge you, each duel is separate, and Your duels at the end of a round shows your latest three, with any still waiting for you first. Your last ten are in Stats, each marked won, lost or draw (or who's ahead while it's still open).

Can I play the same duel twice?

No. Once you've seen a duel round's answers, your first score on it stands. If someone sends you a duel on a round you've already played, your earlier score goes straight in and you see the result at once. When you start a duel, we always pick a round you haven't played yet.

How long does a duel stay open?

Until midnight UK time on the day after it's started, so everyone gets at least a full day to play. After that the link closes, but anyone who played still sees the result. Duels nobody played back drop off your list, so it never fills up with old invites.

How do rematches work?

After a duel, tap Rematch: same people, five new clues. A rematch picks a round that nobody in that duel has played yet, so it's fresh for everyone. Send the new link the same way, and keep the rivalry going as long as you like.

I opened a duel on a different phone. Why is my name different?

Your nickname belongs to your account. If you open a duel on a phone or browser where you aren't signed in, you're playing as a new player there. Tap Sign in first on the duel before you play, and it counts for your usual account and nickname.

What are medals?

Medals are yours to keep. You win them for things like finishing your first round (your first cap), playing 100 rounds (Centurion), pinning one within 15 km (Try scorer), scoring 800 or 1,000, winning duels (100 wins makes you a Gladiator), topping your league for a week, and reaching a 30-day streak. Unlike a streak, a medal never goes away. Play a round before Sunday 1 November 2026 in Rugby, or before Sunday 8 November 2026 in Football, Cricket, Golf or Grand Prix, and you win that game's Founder medal. Some medals have their own name in each game, such as Try scorer in Rugby and Goal scorer in Football. See your cabinet in Stats, and tap any medal to see how it's won. Sign in and your medals follow you to any device. Every medal and how to win it.

Why do you ask which team I support?

Your score counts for your country's fan table, so you can see how your team's fans did today, and your flag shows next to your name in your leagues. Signed-in players pick a country (the club is optional), and you can change it any time: tap the flag at the top of the game, or Stats > Your team. Other players only ever see your flag in your own leagues, and fan tables only ever show averages, never anyone's own score.

How do I sign out or switch accounts?

Open Stats and scroll to Your data, then tap Sign out. It signs out that phone or computer only; everything stays in your account and comes back when you sign in again, with Google or your email.

How do I get reminders, and how do I stop them?

Tap Remind me under the countdown at the end of a round. By email, you get a morning score report at 7am (yesterday's score, how your team and league did, and a nudge that the new round is live), one email a day at most. Phone notifications come at 7am when the new round drops, and at 8pm if you haven't played and your streak's at risk. Every email has a one-click link to stop them, and you can turn either off any time in the stats screen.

Why don't notifications work on my iPhone?

On iPhone, websites can only send notifications once they're on your Home Screen. In Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, open PowerPin from there, and turn notifications on in Remind me. You need iOS 16.4 or newer. Email reminders work everywhere.

I think an answer is wrong.

Tap Report a problem under the answer. It tells us exactly which clue you mean, and we check every report. If we got it wrong, we fix it.

Can I look up the answers?

Please don't: no Googling, no AI, no phoning a friend. It's only fun if the score is yours, and leagues only work if everyone plays it straight.

Where can I see past answers?

Every finished round's clues, answers and stories are in each game's answers archive: Rugby, Football, Cricket, Golf and Grand Prix. Today's answers never appear there until the round is over.

Is there sound?

Yes, but it starts off so the game never blares out on a train. Tap the speaker at the top of the game to turn it on or off.

What happens if I stop playing?

Your account, scores, streak history and medals stay put for 2 years after you last play a round or a duel, or sign in. After 2 years without any of those, we delete the account to look after your data. If you've signed in with an email address, we'll email you 30 days before, and you can keep it with one tap or by playing a round. If you never signed in, your account only lives on your device, so we can't warn you: sign in to be safe.

How do I delete my account?

In the game, open your stats and tap Delete my PowerPin account. It removes your account, scores, streak, leagues and settings in every PowerPin game straight away. Only want to stop one game? Tap Leave that game instead: it deletes that game's scores, team and leagues and stops its emails, and keeps your PowerPin account for the other games. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Is PowerPin linked to any team, union or league?

No. PowerPin is an independent game made by PowerPin Ltd, a company registered in Scotland. We're not connected to, or endorsed by, any team, union, league, tour or governing body, and we never use their logos or crests.
